One of our favorite ways to enjoy warmer weather in New Hampshire is by heading straight for the water. But that doesn't have to mean hitting the beach. Here in New Hampshire the rivers offer just as much fun as the coast. Activities like fishing, swimming, kayaking and canoeing are all great ways to spend the day. But one of our favorite things is tubing. Head to the Saco River to enjoy one of the most fun self-guided tubing trips in the state.
One of the most beautiful rivers in New England, the Saco River flows 136 miles from its source, through New Hampshire and Maine, ultimately emptying into Saco Bay.
It's a beauty to see, but we recommend enjoying it from up close! There's nothing better than a tube ride down the river and there's no better place to set off from than the Saco River Tubing Company in North Conway.
The Saco River Tubing Company offers tube rentals as well as instructions to take a 1.5-mile, 3-mile or 5-mile float. The longest of these will take the whole day so it's great for people who want to enjoy their whole day out on the water.
The River is about three feet deep in most sections during the summer.
Most routes have sandy beaches, super clear water and even some fun rope swings to enjoy.
The 1.5-mile trip is best for young children and those who aren't as mobile. There are two different 3-mile trips, one along the Redstone rapid which is best for stronger swimmers and one that floats under the nearby covered bridge.
The 5-mile route sees it all! We love this one because it allows for both adventure and relaxation.
The rope swings along the way offer lots of fun. And you might even find some more natural obstacles to enjoy.
But no matter what you choose remember that this is a real river and, as the sign indicates, hazards can present themselves at any time.
When done safely, this is a great way to take in some of the best nature in New Hampshire.
Saco River Tubing is open every day from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The self-guided tubing trips range in length from 1.5 miles to 5 miles.
