Nevada is always throwing surprises at us. Just when you think you’ve seen all there is to see in the Silver State, you discover a hidden gem that you never even knew about. For example, a lot of people have gone their entire lives without knowing about this underrated state park in eastern Nevada. In fact, this little-known state park is considered one of the most remote parks in the state. You’ll have to drive way off the beaten path to reach it but it’s so worth it. This place is an absolute beauty and everybody should visit it at some point.
Located right along the Nevada-Utah border is one of the most remote and underrated state parks in our state—Beaver Dam State Park. If you're the type of person that likes to take time to themselves and escape civilization for a bit, this is the place for you.
Beaver Dam State Park may be in the middle of nowhere but it's a wonderland of canyons, lush foliage, flowing streams, lakes, and so much more. The 2,393-acre park is located approximately 34 miles east of Caliente and is reached via dirt road, but it's definitely worth the trouble.
As you approach the park, you'll be greeted by the most wondrous scenery. The park's landscapes are incredibly diverse which comes as a surprise considering the remote location. For this reason, the park is a hiking and camping paradise.
The park's name definitely fits. Beavers heavily populated the area during the park's early days and still do to some extent. However, beavers aren't the only animals you'll find here. The park contains an abundance of wildlife including rabbits, mountain lions, coyotes, porcupines, foxes, and so much more.
You'll find a multitude of hiking trails around the park which are perfect for exploring this delightful area. There are also 33 individual campsites which are available on a first come, first served basis.
The most surprising aspect of this park is the fact that people simply don't know about it. How could you not? The rich landscapes are by far some of the best scenery Nevada has to offer. It officially became a state park in the 1930s when the Civilian Conservation Corps developed camping/picnicking areas, but it remains one of Nevada's best kept secrets.
Simply put, Beaver Dam State Park is pure bliss. If you have yet to explore this incredible landscape, make it your mission to visit it before summer ends. This place is just too good to pass up!
