Wingfield Park is a popular place in Reno to enjoy all that the lovely Truckee River has to offer. The park is the location of the Truckee River Whitewater Park, a giant water park that acts as an oasis in the middle of this busy city.
Kayakers of all skill levels will find an immense amount of enjoyment in the park. The park provides easy access points from all directions, class 2-3 rapids, and several drop-pools.
The park is open year-round and access to it is completely free. Just bring your own kayak, raft, or tube and you're good to go. The water is absolutely perfect, ranging from 50 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit.
The whitewater park also happens to be the location of the annual Reno River Festival every May. The festival brings in world-class kayakers who compete against each other on the river. The festival is definitely something every Nevadan should experience. This year the festival is on May 12-13.
If you don't own a kayak, don't worry. There's a vendor on site that provides rental equipment. The park is a great place for beginners to start building their skills before moving onto more difficult rivers.
The entire area is absolutely picturesque. The park contains several smooth flat-top rocks and boulders specifically put in the park for spectators to enjoy views of the river.
