Most people who visit northwestern Nevada put all their focus on Lake Tahoe. While that lake is certainly one of the most beautiful in the nation, don’t overlook nearby Pyramid Lake. At 27 miles long and 11 miles wide, it’s quite large, but it’s small in comparison to ancient Lake Lahontan, the massive lake that once covered all of Nevada – of which Pyramid Lake is a remnant. This lake is entirely inside the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Reservation, but it’s open to the public. On your way to the lake, you should stop at the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe Museum and Visitor Center! This is possibly the best visitor center in Nevada and you will love it.
