This unique restaurant is located in the historic passenger terminal at the Norfolk Regional Airport. It was originally opened in 2011 by a group of 100 local investors, but unfortunately closed five years later.
The restaurant made its triumphant return in April 2017 with a new board of directors and new management. Local investors have made this place possible, which would be enough to make Barnstormers special.
But there are, of course, other qualities that make this place a must-visit. First and foremost is the view. The outdoor seating patio is in direct sight of the aircraft parking ramp, so as you enjoy a meal you can watch planes coming and going.
This lovely airplane mural by Karl Reeder is a great addition to the outdoor seating area. Inside and out, the restaurant is adorned in airplane-themed decor, including a very cool biplane frame holding an aviation-themed photo collage.
Whether there's a special event going on or not, the outdoor seating area is one of the most wonderfully unique places to sit and have a delicious meal in this part of the state.
