After A 24-Year Absence, This Nebraska Balloon Festival Is Back And Better Than Ever
If you lived in or around Falls City, Nebraska in the late ’80s or early ’90s, you may remember the very popular hot air balloon festival that used to take place there. 1995 was the last year it was held…until now. The Falls City Hot Air Balloon Festival is returning in 2019, and it’s going to be a high-flying good time.
Falls City is located in Richardson County in the far southeast corner of Nebraska. Back in 1985, resident Ken Kunce had the brilliant vision to bring colorful hot air balloons - just like the ones he saw on vacation in New Mexico and Arizona - to his home.
The first Falls City Hot Air Balloon Festival happened in 1985, and the tradition continued until 1985. It was wildly popular with residents and people from surrounding communities. The festival attracted balloonists from all around the country.
This year, it's finally coming back after a 24-year absence. It's set to be a family-friendly weekend full of beautiful balloons, fun games, live music, great food, and so much more.
Come out to Brenner Field on June 15th from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. to see the return of this historic festival that put Falls City on the map so long ago. After enjoying some music and food, watch the enchanting balloon glow starting at 7 p.m. Outside food and drinks aren't allowed, but everyone is encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
