Winter in Wyoming is truly the best time of year if you ask us - but that might just be because it's the longest season, and we've got to learn to love it in order to survive out here. 1. Yellowstone National Park
When the temperatures start to fall and winter rolls in, most of the roads in Yellowstone close to vehicles. They remain open to snowcoaches and snowmobiles, though, and the park is a winter wonderland in the snow! While it might be more difficult (and can be expensive) to plan a trip to Yellowstone in winter, it's certainly worth it for a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
2. Taggart and Bradley Lake, Grand Teton National Park
Every winter, the road from Taggart Lake to Signal Mountain is groomed and maintained for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. There are side trails, too, and you'll get to experience some breathtaking views of the Tetons when you bundle up and head on out here. In the winter, Triangle X Ranch and Dornan's Spur Ranch Cabins are the only two places open for lodging in the park, so plan a day trip, or book your stay early. This is one of the best places for snowshoeing in Wyoming.
3. Granite Hot Springs
Before you leave the area, try to plan a trip to Granite Hot Springs. You can ski there... but it's a pretty exhausting trip. Instead, rent a snowmobile or book a dog sled tour from Jackson Hole Iditarod Sled Dogs and enjoy a relaxing ride out to the most scenic springs in the region.
4. Thermopolis
Speaking of natural wonders - have you visited Thermopolis in the winter? Hot Springs County is fun all year long, and a visit to Hot Springs State Park should be on your wintertime bucket list if you're not too far away. Hot Springs State Park is one of the best winter destinations in Wyoming, hands down.
5. Bighorn National Forest
There are hundreds of trailheads in this national forest, but in the winter, you'll want to keep an eye out for what's been groomed and maintained. There's nothing like walking through a forest of pine trees dusted with snow - you'll feel like you've discovered a new kind of natural wonder in Wyoming.
6. Saratoga Hot Springs Resort
When it comes to winter relaxation, not everyone wants to go hike a trail or skate on the lake. For those who prefer something a little different, check out the Saratoga Hot Springs Resort. You'll find a blend of nature and luxury right here.
7. Fremont Lake
Wyoming's most beloved lake comes alive in the wintertime! When you visit, you'll see skating, hockey, and ice fishing, along with a breathtaking backdrop that will leave you speechless. It's one of the best places to go ice skating in Wyoming.
