West Tensleep Falls Trail in Wyoming offers an easy, scenic hike to a beautiful waterfall, perfect for beginners and families.
One of the best things about living (or even just visiting!) Wyoming is the plentiful access to the great outdoors. Whether it's spending an entire weekend hiking and camping or simply taking a walk in our own neighborhood, there's no shortage of ways to appreciate the fresh air here. But, one of our favorite ways to experience the state is by heading out on this short trail to one seriously beautiful waterfall!
Located within Bighorn National Forest, West Tensleep Falls Trail is a beautiful route leading to a lovely waterfall.
The 1.5-mile trail is rated as easy and offers fairly flat terrain with a minimal elevation gain of 213-feet.
To access this beauty, head to the West Tensleep Lake parking lot. The trailhead is easily marked so once you spot it you'll be on your way!
This is a great hike for beginners or families since there's tons to see along the way.
And in the summer you'll love that much of it is shaded, making it nice and cool.
Along the way the views are incredible. You'll see the lake and the mountain views we all love here in Wyoming.
As you near the falls you'll likely hear the rush of water before you even see it. And while this waterfall isn't as strong or mighty as others, it's got the same beauty.
The area is peaceful, making it perfect for enjoying a book alone or enjoying a picnic if you've come with others.
And once you've spent some time here, simply turn around and head back the same way you came.
West Tensleep Falls Trail can be accessed year-round, but we hear it's best between May and September. You can learn more about it and see a full map by checking out alltrails.com. And those of you with pups will love that you can bring them along, just be sure to keep them on a leash.
