Wyoming’s Grand Canyon Of The Yellowstone Looks Even More Spectacular In the Winter

Winter in Wyoming is one of the most beautiful seasons, and there are so many unique ways to explore the Cowboy State when the snow starts to fall. Plan a trip to the country's first National Park to see the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone in winter and you'll have an unforgettable adventure.

Yellowstone National Park is one of the most breathtaking and remarkable places in the world - and it's even more magical under a blanket of snow.

Most Wyomingites are used to seeing the country's largest wilderness ecosystem in the summer months, but in the winter, Yellowstone comes to life with natural wonders.

The park is only open to oversnow traffic from Mid-December through March, so you'll have to join a planned expedition, or apply for snowmobile access.

You can get around via cross-country skis, too, and there are warming huts and limited facilities open to the public.

In the winter, the Canyon area is one of the most fascinating sights to see.

Every year, an enormous ice dam forms at the base of the Lower Falls. It often grows to more than 100 feet tall and is truly a wonder of the wild.

Visit to see the Upper and Lower Falls of the Yellowstone River, along with the stunning scenery of the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone.

Despite the pileup of snow and brutal winter winds, there's still so much life to see in Yellowstone during the winter.

Visit the National Parks Website here to find more information about traveling through Yellowstone in the winter.
