Devils Tower is a tower that rises more than 1,200 feet above the Belle Fourche River below it. Also known as Bear Lodge Butte, Devils Tower was the first National Monument in the United States, having been established by President Teddy Roosevelt more than 100 years ago in 1906. Devils Tower is also very important to Native American culture. The Kiowa and Lakota tribes have many stories to explain Devils Tower, including that the Great Spirit created the tower to save some children from giant attacking bears.

Rock climbing the Devils Tower gained popularity starting in the 1990s and, today, thousands of climbers try their luck climbing the huge Devils Tower.
