This Waterfall Canyon Cave In Wyoming Is Worthy Of A Little Adventure

Discover the breathtaking Wind Cave in Caribou-Targhee National Forest, accessible via a scenic and challenging trail.

Wyoming is full of natural beauty, and some of our most stunning National Forests get overlooked. Caribou-Targhee National Forest sits on the border of Wyoming and Idaho, and there's one canyon trail that will take you straight into a waterfall cave.

The best trail in Caribou-Targhee National Forest is one that takes you through gorgeous fields and into the mouth of Wind Cave.

Along the way you'll pass several cascades, as the trail follows a mountain stream.

This incredible cave is more of a split in the mountain - and its sheer size will take your breath away.

The trek up to the mouth of the cave brings you up past a waterfall. If you're not comfortable with scrambling, it can be quite a challenge.

All of the effort will pay off when you get there, though. This incredible rocky formation is a natural wonder.

The view from the mouth of Wind Cave overlooks Darby Canyon and will take your breath away.

If you hike the trail at just the right time, you'll find a small, hidden waterfall off to the side, too. Be sure to keep an eye out.

You can find the trail map, with directions to the trailhead, right here. Though it is just a 7 mile trail out and back, don't try to tackle this hike alone. It is so much better when you share the experience! Carry bear spray, as this is grizzly country, and be well equipped for a challenging hike.

The best time to tackle Darby Canyon is between late spring through early fall. You'll fall in love with the beautiful wildflowers along the way.
