The Underrated River Trail In Wyoming You’ll Want To Hike Over And Over Again
Explore the Cascade Canyon Trail in Grand Teton National Park for a moderately difficult hike with stunning views and diverse wildlife.
There's no better place to commune with nature than Wyoming's Grand Tetons National Park. The park is full of beautiful hiking trails that take you far out into the wild, where you'll find be surrounded by fragrant pines and stunning views. Here's one of our favorite trails in the park.
You'll find the trailhead for the Cascade Canyon Trail at Jenny Lake. Park at the parking lot and hike around the lake, or take the Jenny Lake Boat for a picturesque tour that drops you off right at the trailhead.
This trail is nine miles out and back, and is considered moderately difficult. You'll gain an elevation of 1,099 feet during your hike.
The trail takes you through meadows and forests...
...and into Cascade Canyon, which is surrounded by the rugged mountains that make Grand Teton National Park so beautiful.
Cascade Canyon Creek is your constant companion along the trail. In some places, the creek moves along with fierce power...
...in other spots, its a lazy, meandering creek with crystal clear water.
The creek tumbles down the mountainside, fed by the melting snow at the peaks. You can see how Cascade Canyon Creek gets its name.
Keep an eye out for moose along this trail - they're a common sight.
You're also likely to see plenty of pika - small, furry mammals related to the rabbit. These cute little guys scamper around through rocky areas and along the little ponds you'll find next to the trail.
The towering cliffs and sheer rock walls that line the canyon are simply breathtaking. During your hike, you'll enjoy views of several majestic mountains, including Teewinot Mountain, Grand Teton Mountain, and Mount Owen.
While this trail can be quite busy during summer months, you might find a bit of solitude if you arrive early. Allow five to six hours for this hike - you'll want to take your time to bask in the beauty of this gorgeous canyon.
