There’s Something Magical About These 8 Wyoming Lakes In The Summer

There's something very magical about the glistening water of a lake in the summertime. It doesn't matter if you are simply enjoying the view or actively involved in the lake; it's just as magical either way. Here are 8 of the best lakes in Wyoming to check out this summer.

1. Lake Marie

Lake Marie is one of our favorite Wyoming Lakes and is located near Saratoga and Ryan Park, Wyoming. The lake is right along Route 130 and is situated between the mountains and the highway. Schoolhouse Rock and The Diamond serve as the backdrop to this beautiful lake. The lake drains over a small cascade that runs next to the parking lot. This is a great lake for bait casting or fly fishing, especially for brook trout, cutthroat trout and rainbow trout.

2. Alcova Reservoir

Alcova Reservoir is a recreational area for Casper. It has 6 campgrounds and 8 boat ramps. Alcova is a great lake for swimming, cliff diving, boating, sailing, floating, water skiing and riding Sea-Doos. The lake has a beach and a picnic area.

3. Middle Piney Lake

Middle Piney Lake is located in the Wyoming Range near Afton and Smoot. The lake is surrounded by high rugged peaks and is a good spot for camping, hiking and fishing and is one of the most beautiful lakes in Wyoming. Here, you can enjoy fly fishing, spinning, and bait casting. The lake is stocked with lake trout, rainbow trout, sockeye salmon, brook trout and cutthroat trout.

4. Brooks Lake

Brooks Lake is a secluded alpine lake located in the Shoshone National Forest in northwestern Wyoming near Dubois. The lake is in the Wind River Mountains near the Continental Divide and is surrounded by wilderness. The lake has a boat launch and allows most water sports except jet skiing or water skiing. It's also a great lake for fishing for brook trout, rainbow trout, lake trout and splake.

5. String Lake

String Lake is located in Grand Teton National Park just west of North Jenny Lake Junction. The lake is shallow with relatively warm water which makes it a great destination for a hot summer day. It's one of the best lakes around for families with young children. Here you can enjoy hiking trails, a footbridge, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, sunbathing and picnicking.

6. Phelps Lake

Phelps Lake is located in the southern section of the Grand Teton National Park. It's a natural lake located at the entrance of Death Canyon. Pictured is the jumping rock which is located on the northern end that serves as a natural diving board.

7. Sloans Lake

Sloan Lake is a 29- acre lake that is located in Lions Park at 8th Avenue and Carey Avenue in Cheyenne. You can explore the lake by paddleboat, kayak or canoe. Here, you can also enjoy fishing for channel catfish, largemouth bass, crappie and sunfish. Pictured is the lake being stocked with rainbow trout.

8. Fremont Lake

Fremont Lake is the second largest natural lake and one of America's deepest at 600'. The lake is located near Pinedale in Wind River Mountain. It's named after John Fremont who mapped the Oregon Trail. The lake is popular for boating, sailing, water skiing, fishing, camping and paddleboat boarding.
