The One Mesmerizing Place In Wisconsin To See The Northern Lights

Newport State Park is located at the very tip of Door County. It's Wisconsin's only Wilderness Park, meaning the park only has backpack camping and is fairly undeveloped. Located far from any towns or cities that would provide light pollution and an unobstructed view of the eastern horizon, this park was recently given a designation only 48 parks worldwide have received. The International Dark-Sky Association works to preserve night skies for all to view. They named Newport State Park Wisconsin's first Dark Sky Park, noting how well you can view the sky, stars and more from this remote spot.

This park is totally awesome on its own and during the day. There are eleven miles of shoreline, more than 2,300 acres of protected parkland and more than 30 miles of hiking trails.

Even during the busy summer season in Door County, the remoteness of this park keeps it quiet and serene.

The park is a true escape. There are campsites on an interior lake that warms up more quickly than Lake Michigan for all kinds of water activites.

But the sky is reason to come here. At the very tip of the peninsula, you're privy to stunning sunrises and sunsets.

More than that, though, this park offers unprecedented star and Aurora viewing.

Brush up on your night photography and learn how to do time lapse. You'll be treated to stellar and unmatched views of the night sky at Newport.

This is a great spot to head out to see the Northern Lights, but even if they escape you on your trip, you'll still be privy to some of the most amazing night skies you've ever seen and more stars than you could hope to count.

But when you get lucky enough to see the Aurora Borealis from this spot, you'll never forget it. With nothing to distract you or detract from the display, you'll have a truly magical experience.

Seeing the Northern Lights is a bucket list item for many people and you couldn't hope for a better location than this. If you go, the only other people you'll encounter are space and astronomy fans like yourself who are there to stare in wonder at the skies.

For Northern Lights viewing, there's just no better spot than Newport State Park. Getting there is no easy feat, but that's what makes the payoff so worth it.
