Swim Underneath A Waterfall At This Refreshing Natural Pool In Wisconsin
Amnicon Falls State Park in Wisconsin offers a unique experience of swimming beneath multiple stunning waterfalls.
From the countless water parks that fill the Dells to beaches, quarry lakes, and more, there are a variety of ways to beat the summer heat here in Wisconsin. And we’ve got another one for you – swimming underneath a waterfall. Take a look:
If swimming underneath a waterfall is on your summer bucket list, a visit to Amnicon Falls State Park won’t disappoint.
Like a dream come true for waterfall-seekers, the South Range park is home to four stunning waterfalls!
In addition to the park’s namesake Upper and Lower Falls, there’s Now and Then Falls and Snake Pit Falls.
The Upper and Lower Falls as well as Now and Then Falls are almost immediately accessible from the parking areas.
Several trails meander through the park. The most popular is the 0.25-mile trail, which leads to the Upper Falls, Lower Falls, and Snake Pit Falls.
Along the way, you’ll trek along the bluff above the Amnicon River, where you can view the waterfalls from above.
Clamoring on the rocks is also an option for viewing the falls, but be careful!
Horton Bridge, a historic covered bridge that's situated between the Upper and Lower Falls, provides another vantage point.
While there are no beaches along the river, the options to swim in its waters are as plentiful as the waterfall viewpoints.
Pools form beneath many of the cascades, giving visitors the chance to not only swim among waterfalls...
...but beneath them, too!
Of course, the depth of the pools depends on the height of the river.
The Upper Falls and Lower Falls are favorites among park visitors who want to cool off. Snake Pit Falls remains somewhat of a secret, which means it’s usually less crowded.
Regardless of which waterfall you decide to take a dip in, it’s important to use caution because there are no lifeguards. For more information, call (715) 398-3000. You can also visit the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website or Facebook page.
