The park has more than 9 miles of hiking trails that weave through mature hardwood forests and open goat prairies atop the bluffs. Moreover, the "Kinni" is recognized as a world-class trout stream, attracting many fly anglers who wade into its cold, rushing flow. It’s easily one of my favorite hidden gems in Wisconsin because of the many dramatic variations in scenery—it all depends on the trail you choose.

If you plan to spend time at the beach, I recommend arriving early on summer weekends to snag a good spot—or come on a weekday when you're likely to have a big stretch to yourself. Since the hike from the parking lot to the water is pretty steep, pack light if you're bringing a cooler or beach chairs. After an afternoon of hiking or swimming, treat yourself to a dinner and a drink with a water view just 10 minutes south in Prescott.
