Wade In The Refreshing Waters On The Scenic Pebble Beach In Wisconsin

Wisconsin is home to two unique sand-less beaches, Schoolhouse Beach and Pebble Beach, with the latter being a hidden gem in Sister Bay.

A beach sans sand is pretty rare. So the fact that we have not one, but TWO, sand-less beaches here in Wisconsin is rather remarkable. One such beach is, of course, the beloved Schoolhouse Beach. The other, Pebble Beach, is not nearly as well known, yet no less impressive. Take a look:

Unbeknownst to many, Schoolhouse Beach isn’t the state’s only beach with a limestone shoreline. Pebble Beach in Sister Bay is also sand-less.

A bit out of the way, the secluded beach has long been a favorite of area residents. However, many of those living outside of Sister Bay have no idea the waterfront oasis even exists.

True to its name, Pebble Beach is covered in limestone rocks. Soft and smooth, they’re perfect for skipping and sunbathing.

Just like at Schoolhouse Beach, taking rocks from Pebble Beach is prohibited, so remember to leave the rocks on the beach where they belong.

Several years ago, there were talks of building private homes and condos on Pebble Beach. Luckily, the village of Sister Bay and the Door County Land Trust purchased the property instead, vowing to preserve it and keep it open for years to come.

Not only did the purchase guarantee the beach’s conservation, but it increased its size tremendously, adding 600 feet of shoreline to the 40-foot beach.

Watch the video below from Youtube user Door County Pulse to learn more about the preservation of Pebble Beach:

So, did you know about Pebble Beach? Or the efforts to preserve it? Ever visited? If so, what’d you think? Tell us in the comments section.
