There’s a place in Wisconsin where opportunities for fun on the water seem to go on forever. In northern Wisconsin, the Eagle River Chain of Lakes is a natural treasure that beckons boaters, anglers, and paddlers. It’s the largest chain of its kind on Earth, and it's a top Wisconsin lake getaway. I’ve spent a lot of time on the chain, and it can feel like paradise on a summer day. Here’s what you need to know about the Eagle River Chain of Lakes.

The Eagle River Chain of Lakes connects to the Three Lakes Chain of Lakes, and together they represent the largest chain of inland lakes in the world.

The chain consists of 28 lakes that are connected by natural and man-made channels. There are over 174 miles of shoreline to explore!

The chain is a popular destination for outdoor recreational activities, such as fishing, boating, and other water sports. The lakes are home to a variety of fish species, including musky, walleye, northern pike, smallmouth bass, largemouth bass, and several kinds of panfish.

The Eagle River Chain of Lakes is a popular tourist destination, particularly during the summer months when visitors come to enjoy the water and explore the surrounding wilderness. There are some very expensive homes on the chain, and if you spend enough time on the lakes, you may spot a famous athlete or actor!

But you don’t have to be rich to enjoy this place. If you own a boat, there are numerous landings that can get you on the water. There are also many places that rent boats, including pontoon boats, fishing boats, canoes, and kayaks. Some will even deliver a boat to the location of your choosing.

There are also many places to stay on the chain - including numerous resorts, lodges, and campgrounds in the area, many of which are right on the water.
