There is a certain amount of excitement that comes with discovering a new park and sharing it with others. Don't you agree? Lucky for us, Wisconsin has many small towns and even more parks waiting to be noticed for their unique characteristics. Swimming, playing in the sand, picnics, and musical events can all be yours here – and you can bring your dog too. Old Settlers Park in Kenosha County is the place to go. Enjoying this small-town park in Wisconsin is the definition of an underrated adventure.
The small town of Salem is just over the Illinois border, housing this 17-acre park known as Old Settlers Park.
The park may not be the largest in Kenosha County, but it packs a punch just the same.
The crown jewel along Old Settlers Park is Paddock Lake – a brilliant blue stretching across to the far shores.
Paddock Lake is approximately 32 feet deep at its deepest point. The average depth is 11 feet. It is home to panfish, largemouth bass, and northern pike.
The park has an inviting little sand beach and swimming area.
There are plenty of tables and BBQ grills for a picnic.
Restrooms and changing rooms are also available at the park. Rent out the pavilion, which accommodates 75 people with 10 picnic tables.
The kids will undoubtedly appreciate running around at the playground.
Come for a little league baseball game, or yoga by the water’s edge.
Bring your canine friends to the dog park at Old Settlers for some fresh air and frolicking. The dog park is open all year long.
Catch one of the events held at the park, whether it be Oktoberfest, or local bands performing throughout the summer.
Stay for the live music, beer garden, and German fare at the annual Oktoberfest celebration.
Additional Oktoberfest activities in the past have included a chainsaw artist, dancers, a classic car show, and children’s games.
I enjoy finding new, local, outdoor - and underrated – places to explore, during all seasons of the year. I hope that you will find these places worth discovering as well!
