The Racine Zoo is located on the shore of Lake Michigan. It was founded in 1923 by Jacob Stoffel, Jr., a businessman and state and local politician. He donated the zoo’s original animals.
Others soon donated more creatures, including badgers, foxes, mountain goats and exotic animals.
Today the zoo has animals from all over the world, including 75 different species and over 300 individual animals. It’s one of only 240 zoos to be accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
While the zoo can be visited daily from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., on some Saturdays it hosts special breakfast events that begin at 9 a.m. Each breakfast features an animal presentation – animals featured at these events include eagles, bears, orangutans and giraffes.
Racine’s Red Onion Cafe serves family friendly meal options at the events, including waffles for kids and egg strata for adults. Everyone can enjoy learning about the zoo’s amazing creatures.
After breakfast you can stroll the zoo to see the rest of the creatures. There are 28 acres to explore and tons of beautiful and fascinating creatures.
Pre-registration is required for Breakfast With the Animals, and there is a discounted rate for zoo members. Learn more here.
