Way up north, past Minocqua but before you get to Boulder Junction is Fallison Lake. The mostly-untouched and undisturbed land is just waiting to be explored. There are a ton of small lakes and bogs and so many hidden gems up here, but one of the best is Fallison Lake. There's a hiking loop that goes all around the 50-acre lake with rock outcroppings, a boardwalk and more. It's a bit of remote paradise in Wisconsin's Northwoods and it's totally worth the trip, no matter the season.
Not only is this area just truly beautiful, but it's a great and easy place to spend part of a day. There's a 2.5 mile loop around the lake and halfway around there's a clearing with picnic tables and a water pump perfect for a mid-hike break.
In spring and summer, the forest here is flush with all kinds of different flora and fauna.
The mixed forest here has balsam fir, hemlock, red pine, white pine, sugar maple, white birch, and large-toothed and trembling aspen.
Fall is a lovely time to check out the changing foliage and get beautiful views across the lake as the trees start to thin out.
In winter, a blanket of snow makes this already remote spot feel even more removed from the fast pace of life.
The forest is still stunning without all the greenery and you're more likely to see the animals on the forest floor.
The path here can be hilly, but there are stairs to help.
Fallison Lake is just so beautiful and the area around it is full of history, from the glacially formed lakes to the stone outcroppings. It's a great place for a family hike.
You'll feel a million miles away from everything at Fallison Lake.
