Kanawha State Forest has 9,300 acres and is located 7 miles from Charleston. The forest has places to camp, hiking trails and a playground.

3. Calvin Price State Forest

This forest has 9,482 acres and is located in Pocahontas and Greenbrier counties. It was purchased in 1953 from the New River Lumber Company.

More than two thirds of the park is accessible only by hiking.
