You’ll Love The Hike To This Hidden Pavilion In West Virginia
Babcock State Park in West Virginia offers a scenic hike to the Island-in-the-Sky overlook, featuring a charming pavilion and vibrant springtime rhododendrons.
One of the best things about living in the Mountain State is that there's no shortage of beautiful scenic overlooks. This little hidden gem in Babcock State Park is whimsically named the "Island-in-the-Sky."
You can start your hike on the Island-in-the-Sky trail at a trailhead near the gristmill, or at a parking lot nearby.
The 0.5 mile mile hike is short but relatively steep,
If you hike in the springtime, you'll probably see bursts of color from the rhododendron flowers throughout the forest.
The trail curves upward around the cliff to get to the top.
When you reach the top, you'll find a charming little pavilion at the overlook.
It's the perfect place to rest and enjoy the view.
While you're hiking around the park, check out the Natural Arch trail as well.
Or hike the Narrow Gauge trail, which follows the path of an old railroad to the remains of the ghost town of Sewell.
