Fall is approaching, and it is arguably the most scenic time of the year. When the leaves change color, we all want to find somewhere special to view this event. Babcock State Park in Fayette County is one great option to do exactly that.
When autumn rolls around, sometimes you just want to take a drive along a country road and view the colorful display of fall leaves. Other times, you might have a more specific destination in mind...
If you are looking to see the brightest and most scenic view of fall foliage this approaching season, there are many great places to go, but you definitely cannot go wrong with Babcock State Park.
Located in Fayette County along the New River Gorge, this 4,127-acre park is a well-known destination for photographers and artists all year round. But the area is never quite as scenic as when the end of fall approaches.
One of the most iconic scenes is the Glade Creek Grist Mill, which is a replica of the park's original Cooper's Mill, arguably the most scenic part of the whole park and an image that has become permanently associated with the state of West Virginia.
But better than that pastoral scene are the views from the park's overlook. Here is where you can truly see the beauty of the not just the park, but the West Virginia in general. It is a great way to get a bird's eye view of the state, but it is not the only one.
Babcock State Park is one of the few parks that actually allow the use of a drone. Use is allowed every day, but is limited from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Plenty of time for drone flight, especially since most drones on the market have an average flight time of about 15 minutes on a single battery charge.
So, when is the most ideal time to visit the park? In that part of West Virginia, fall foliage peaks in late October, just before Halloween.
