The Magnificent Overlook In West Virginia That’s Worthy Of A Little Adventure
Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park offers historic Civil War trails, a scenic overlook, and family-friendly activities.
If you haven't traveled to West Virginia's Droop Battlefield State Park in a while (or ever), then add this historic park and its astounding overlook to your bucket list this season. With a lookout tower that's fun for the entire family, trails that follow in the footsteps of Civil War soldiers, and its own cranberry bog, this state park can easily fill a day with engaging activities.
If you don't have an entire day to spare, then be sure to check out to the overlook tower first.
After a quick climb to the top, you'll have a stunning view of the Greenbrier Valley. In the summer, the view is filled with a lush, green landscape.
You can drive your car up the the foot of the tower, or simply hike on one of the many foot paths. The park features eight trails; each one is under a mile in length.
Droop Mountain is the site of the last Civil War battle that took place in West Virginia.
Many people don't realize Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park was West Virginia's FIRST state park — or that a private in the Union army who became a WV Delegate lead the crusade to turn the battlefield into a park.
