But for those who desire a more remote adventure, there is a legendary hike in the Cascade Mountain Range that takes you to one of the most breathtaking natural wonders in Washington - and you'll find that the destination is well worth the journey.
Located within the beautiful Alpine Lakes Wilderness in the Central Cascades of Washington, the Enchantments Trail should be a bucket list item for any adventurer.
This visually stunning hike spans 18 miles and yields an elevation gain of 4,809 feet. The trail is rated hard, due in part to the elevation gain and in part to the distance - make no mistake, this isn't your casual Sunday afternoon stroll.
This journey is meant to be approached as an overnight backpacking adventure so that you can take your time exploring all the beauty and scenery along the way.
You'll need to be prepared with all the essential hiking gear, including a waterproof pack that holds all your supplies such as prepped meals or cookware, water, changes of clothes, sunscreen, headlamps, waterproof matches, spare batteries, and so forth. One of the most visually stunning scenes you'll encounter along this trail is this view of Dragontail Peak with Colchuk Lake in the foreground.
These mountain reflections on the lake are to die for. This view is definitely worth soaking in for a while before you continue your trek.
The next portion of the hike ascends Aasgard Pass and is quite challenging. You'll encounter scree (loose, small rocks), but you'll ideally be prepared with sturdy hiking boots or shoes, as well as poles to help you remain stabilized along the challenging path.
Along this remote and rugged trail, you'll encounter many glacial lakes and beautiful alpine meadows. It's not uncommon to encounter mountain goats and other wildlife as well. Hopefully you brought a camera!
