There’s truly something for everyone in Washington. Some of us prefer city living, while many other enjoy a more rural experience. And for those among us who REALLY want to go off the grid, there’s Stehekin. Not only is it the most remote spot in our state, it’s one of America’s most isolated communities.
Reaching Stehekin is not easy.
The best way is to take a boat or a floatplane up Lake Chelan from the nearest town, which is 55 miles away. You can also hike for several days through the mountains if you’re feeling adventurous.
Stehekin is situated in a lush valley surrounded by 2.5 acres of federally protected wilderness.
There is no vehicle access. The vehicles there have been barged in through Lake Chelan.
Only about 75 people call this community home permanently.
It does get its share of temporary visitors, but you won’t find any crowds here.
There are numerous remote campgrounds, but you will find a few lodging options.
These are mainly cabins and lodges.. This is the Stehekin Valley Ranch.Aside from hiking, visitors can go horseback riding, biking, or take a guided fishing tour.
Needless to say, there aren’t many amenities, but you will find one delicious bakery.
Stehekin Pastry Company serves delicious baked goods, ice cream, espresso and a limited lunch menu.
The scenery here is absolutely beautiful.
You won’t have cell service, so you’ll have plenty of time to enjoy it.
Have you visited Stehekin? What about Washington's most remote restaurant?
