If you've ever stood at the top of the Diablo Lake Overlook in the North Cascades, Hurricane Ridge, or Palouse Falls, you already know what an absolutely breathtaking—and geographically diverse—state we live in. But if you're not familiar with the views from Dry Falls, you're really missing out. Come see why this is one of the most underrated parts of the Pacific Northwest.
You'll find Sun Lakes-Dry Falls State Park just outside of Coulee City in Grant County.
This is an under-utilized part of the state, even for those who call Eastern Washington home.
Many, many years ago (around 15-20,000, give or take a few), some Ice Age floods carved out a massive waterfall here.
The flooding put parts of Idaho, Washington, and Oregon under hundreds of feet of water in just a few days, greatly enlarging the Grand Coulee and Dry Falls area.
The former waterfall was once four times the size of Niagara Falls.
But today, it's a 3.5-mile-wide chasm of basalt with a 400-foot drop.
A small overlook takes you to the edge, allowing you some stunning sweeping views ...
... and we highly recommend you take them all in.
