The One Beach In Washington Where You Can Drive Right Up To The Water

Long Beach in Washington is a popular destination known for its 28-mile stretch of sandy shore where visitors can drive on the beach.

Long Beach is a top destination for Washingtonians for many reasons. Not only is it our longest and largest stretch of sandy shore, but the charming beach town is delightful in any season. But many people are attracted to Long Beach for another reason: You can drive on it.

While Long Beach is not actually the longest beach in the entire world, it IS the world's longest beach on a peninsula.

It stretches 28 miles along Washington's southwest coast, and it's truly a beautiful sight.

There's nothing like taking a nice, relaxing sunset stroll along the beach...

... but many people come here for some good old-fashioned beach driving.

Believe it or not, Long Beach is actually an official Washington State highway with a 25 MPH speed limit.

A four wheel drive vehicle is certainly the preferred method of transportation here, but it's not required.

You'll get much better traction if you keep to the right and avoid the areas where the sand is completely dry. Damp sand will give you more traction.

There really aren't a lot of ways you can't reach the ocean at Long Beach.

Take the car, go on horseback, walk... just enjoy this pristine peninsula respectfully.

Long Beach makes an absolutely beautiful vacation destination in any season.

They're known for their kite festival in August, and summer is obviously the warmest time. But the beach feels just as relaxing in the winter.

Driving right up to the ocean is pretty amazing. Just make sure you don't exceed the speed limit of 25 mph and show courtesy to your fellow vacationers. And if you prefer a more secluded beach experience, you may enjoy our hidden beaches road trip.
