It's a beautiful year-round destination, but when the weather heats up, it makes for one of the best swimming holes in Virginia.
Saint Marys Falls is a picturesque waterfall tucked away in the Virginia mountains. It's a popular destination, especially in the summertime, when folks make their way to this breathtaking waterfall swimming spot.
Getting to the falls isn't exactly easy, but your efforts will be well rewarded.
To start this hiking adventure, drive down Saint Marys Road and you will eventually reach a dead end with a sign designating the trailhead.
The trail isn't blazed, but it's well-defined and follows the beautiful Saint Marys River. Hikers should note that there are a handful of crossings each way, so be sure to exercise caution. Water shoes are recommended!
Eventually, you'll reach the main attraction: a gorgeous Blue Ridge Mountain waterfall.
And, just .2 miles prior to the waterfall, you'll see a sizable swimming hole.
As you can imagine, both of these water features make for refreshing stops on your hiking adventure.
