Welcome to the Virginia Zoo! It's an incredible 58-acre facility that's home to nearly 700 beautiful animals.

A day trip to the zoo promises to be an incredibly rewarding and educational experience -- especially if you sign up for one of the behind-the-scenes encounters.

In order to enjoy one of these up-close-and-personal encounters, you'll need to sign up at least two weeks in advance. On the day of your tour, you'll be introduced to the Zoo Keeper who will guide the tour.

During this special program, you can opt to interact with giraffes, tortoises...

...and even rhinos!

On the rhino tour, you'll learn about the amazing Southern white rhinos and their current conservation efforts. Your guide will also share with you the special care that these majestic creatures require.
