Nestled on the banks of Virginia's Eastern Shore, Kiptopeke State Park is easily one of Virginia's most beloved treasures.
Visiting this park, you won't help but feel an extraordinary sense of adventure. In 1608, Captain John Smith himself is said to have explored this area.
Today, a treasure trove of wildlife awaits your discovery. From sand dollars to migratory birds, there's no shortage of wonderful surprises here.
Amenities abound at Kiptopeke State Park, which is home to RV and tent camping, a boat ramp, a lighted fishing pier, picnic areas, a beach bathhouse, and 5.1 miles of hiking and biking trails to enjoy.
If you're looking to stay the night, there are many options available. The park offers cabins, lodges, campgrounds, and even yurts.
One of the park's most famous features is the collection of concrete ships often referred to as the Kiptopeke Concrete Fleet.
These 9 concrete ships were part of a collection of 24 that were requested by the U.S. Maritime Commission during WWII. The ships are located about a quarter of a mile from the shore, and can be explored up-close if you rent a kayak at the pier.
So whether you're looking for a true Chesapeake Bay adventure or perhaps a little peace and quite on the water, you'll be so glad you traveled to this remote location in Virginia.
