Ready to lace up those hiking boots? Good, because we've got quite an adventure in store. The Cedar Run, White Oak, Old Rag, Weakley Hollow, and Nicholson Hollow Trail measures 18.5 miles in total, requiring most hikers 10.5 hours to complete.
It's not recommended that you try to finish this difficult loop trail in Virginia in one day. It's a great area for both camping and backpacking if you're interested in a multi-day adventure.
To start your adventure, you'll begin at the Whiteoak Boundary Parking Area. From there, you'll continue up Cedar Run.
Hikers agree that the trail is difficult, but the attractions you'll encounter along the way make this trip a worthwhile one. From waterfall swimming holes...
... to fairytale footbridges...
...and out-of-this-world summit views, this loop truly has it all.
While most of the trail is well-maintained, there are definitely some scrambles, especially around the Old Rag hiking area. With this in mind, be sure to wear appropriate footwear.
And most importantly, pace yourself! This trail isn't easy by any stretch of the imagination, so a slow and steady approach is best.
