Virginia’s Hidden Sapphire Lake Is Even More Breathtaking In The Winter

Exploring Virginia's beautiful landscape is less common in the winter, but sometimes can be even more rewarding than in warmer months. A prime example is a gorgeous mountain lake that relatively few know about. Tucked away in Shenandoah National Park, Crimora Lake Overlook resides at an altitude of nearly 3,000 feet. This viewpoint offers an exquisite panorama of the surrounding mountains as well as a beautiful lake in Virginia that transforms in the winter.

Skyline Drive, which carves its way through the breathtaking Shenandoah National Park, is a beloved scenic drive that's decidedly less crowded during the winter.

And yet, with incredible visibility and the chance to see a dusting of snow, the drive is nothing short of magical during the quiet season.

At Milepost 92.5 awaits a true hidden gem known as Crimora Lake Overlook. While not obvious from the road, there's a beautiful lake hiding in the mountains.

This mountain lake, with its turquoise waters, is all the more stunning in the winter. Compared to the muted colors of the landscape, the water appears almost glacial.

At an elevation of 2,975', Crimora Lake Overlook has plenty to offer in the way of mountain views, too. It's a great spot to rest, reflect, and take in the scenery.

As you can see, this beautiful lake in Virginia is rather tucked away in the mountain landscape. You might consider bringing a pair of binoculars or a camera to capture the lake in all of its glory.
