There are few things more rewarding than a challenging hike with an incredible view. Here in Virginia, some of the best views often require hours upon hours of hiking. And while this can be the perfect way to spend a beautiful day outdoors, sometimes, shorter hikes can be more appealing. That's exactly what you'll enjoy when you climb Bearfence Mountain. It's just one mile and yet hikers should note there's quite a bit of climbing required. Fortunately, though, the view from the top will be well worth the effort. Here's more on why you might opt to scramble your way up Bearfence Mountain for some of the best views in Virginia.
Situated in the Northern Terminus of Shenandoah National Park, Bearfence Mountain trail is one that packs a mean punch in a relatively short time frame.
From your very first steps on the trail, you'll begin your ascent through the lovely hardwood forest characteristic of Shenandoah National Park.
Although rated as moderate on AllTrails, it's important to note that this trek is more appropriately rated as difficult due to the steep inclines and scrambles. Fortunately, you can take your time, because the trail is only one mile total.
The top of the trail is where you'll encounter the toughest of rock scrambles. It's important to watch your step and wear appropriate hiking boots.
Once you've made it to the top, take time to appreciate the panoramic views, which are positively sublime during sunset.
No matter the season, you'll find that this view is well worth the scramble. Be sure to bring your camera with you!
The good news is that the descent back down to the parking area is all downhill. You'll welcome the change of pace!
