Hike on This Winter-Friendly Part of the Long Trail in Vermont for Gorgeous Snowy Vistas

Discover the beauty of winter hiking in Vermont's Joseph Battell Wilderness, featuring the stunning Great Cliff via Long Trail.

Hiking in the mountains of Vermont is something that could never get old. Even in frigid temperatures, the beauty and majestic scenery of the Green Mountains will always more than compensate for our freezing toes. This winter, escape to the gorgeous and secluded Joseph Battell Wilderness in central Vermont for a winter hike with stunning snowy views! The Great Cliff via Long Trail trail is a short hike that offers outstanding natural beauty. Here's a look at one of the best winter hikes in Vermont:

The one-and-a-half mile out-and-back trail, although fairly steep, is very doable for all hikers and the views from atop Great Cliff are simply breathtaking. It's certainly one of the best places for winter hiking in Vermont.

In winter, the views are magical. With snowcapped mountains and frosted trees, you'll be rewarded with quite the scenery.

The trailhead can be found on Route 73, also called Gap Road, in the town of Goshen. For more exact directions to the hike, please visit the AllTrails hike description.

Another great aspect of this trail is that it's very isolated and secluded. This is in part due to its hidden location and lack of street parking. But this makes the trail all the better as a hidden gem that's perfect for winter hiking in Vermont.

Be warned that there is a steep incline, but without the incline, there wouldn't be amazing views at the end! Things could get icy along this part, so make sure you're wearing hiking boots you trust. Having a pair of traction cleats wouldn't hurt, either.

Great Cliff Via Long Trail is one of the most gorgeous trails for winter hiking in Vermont. And it makes for a great winter hike because of its relatively short length. You will also stay nice and toasty when trekking up, so that can be seen as a plus on those frightfully cold Vermont days.

If you're looking for one of the best places for winter hiking in Vermont, add winter hiking at the Joseph Battell Wilderness to the top of your list.
