Experience the refreshing bliss this summer with our guide to the best swimming holes in Utah. Grab your sunscreen and towel...it's time to dive into adventure!
1. Fifth Water Hot Springs, Diamond Fork
This is one of the best swimming waterfalls in Utah, and with several hot springs, it is also a great place to relax on a summer day. The waterfall is cold and has a little cave right behind it! The hot springs smell like sulpher, and the minerals give them this bright blue color. Watch for snakes during summer months - they’re drawn to the warm waters here.
2. The Homestead Crater, Midway
This fun crater located at The Homestead in Midway is one of the most interesting places to swim in Utah. It’s a natural geotherm pool inside a 55-foot crater. The resort offers snorkeling, scuba diving or swimming in the crater.
3. Mill Creek, Moab
This swimming hole of Mill Creek is cold and clear, making it a welcome spot in the 100-degree plus temperatures of Moab. Take a short hike to reach the waterfall and pools. The trailhead starts at the parking lot on Powerhouse Drive.
4. Mona Rope Swing
A true swimming hole always has a rope swing...this one has two! The rope swings are located at Burriston Ponds in Mona. Gather your courage, then swing over the pond and splash right into the cool pond. Then you can get really tricky with some somersaults and belly flops. There’s a parking lot, and a short gravel path takes you right to one of the best swimming holes in Utah.
5. Provo River
Start just below the Deer Creek Reservoir dam, and float all the way down to Vivian Park. It’s a 4.5-mile float, which will take you about five hours to complete. Make sure to take plenty of sunscreen and a hat, and wear a lifejacket (which is required by law). The river flows very, very fast in May, so make sure you wait until the later summer months to go to this Utah swimming hole.
6. Toquerville Falls
You’ll reach this little desert oasis by vehicle. The road is not paved and can be rough and bumpy, but these Utah swimming holes are worth it! You might be tempted to jump from the cliffs, but don’t do it...several serious injuries have occurred on these slippery rocks, and the pool beneath isn’t always deep enough. From the Toquerville exit on I-15, drive south to Spring Drive. Follow that road for 3.6 miles until you reach the fork. Follow the right fork for another two miles.
7. Wall Lake, Uintas
Wall Lake is an cold, alpine lake in the high Uinta mountains. It’s a small lake that’s really more of a Utah swimming hole, with cliff jumping and lots of great places along its bank to jump off. To get there, drive about 39 miles along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway (starting in Kamas), then turn off at the Crystal Lake turnoff. Take a short one-mile hike to wall lake.
