This Little-Known Lake Is Perfect For Fishing, Birdwatching, And Easy Hiking In Utah

Mirror Lake Scenic Byway is one of the most popular drives in Utah — and for good reason. This route takes you from farmland to the mountains filled with forests, meadows, and lakes. While there are many bodies of water you can explore along this drive (or from a hiking trail), one that is lesser-known, a bit smaller, and absolutely beautiful is Teapot Lake in Utah. It is a fabulous destination for fishing, birdwatching, or hiking. It may become one of your favorite destinations in this part of the state.

While there are many lakes along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway that you must hike to visit, Teapot Lake is easy to access. You can actually view Teapot Lake right from the road.

Many people visit Teapot Lake for its incredible fishing. You'll find picture-perfect fishing spots all around the shore that are ideal for throwing in a line. Rainbow Trout is most common in this lake.

I love to just sit back and enjoy the scenery around me — it’s how I relax. Teapot Lake is one of the best for some serenity, meditation, and even wildlife observation. It’s quiet, peaceful, and tranquil here.

You should also bring your hiking shoes as there is a short trail that takes you all around the lake.

Teapot Lake isn’t large so don’t expect a full-day hike but it’s perfect for a short stroll. The trail is well-developed and fairly flat, so you will have a fairly easy trek.

As you hike, you’ll walk through trees and next to the water. Bring some bug spray as the mosquitos can become quite thick in areas.

Keep your eyes out for animals of all sizes. It isn’t uncommon to see ospreys fly around the lake.

Teapot Lake is a beautiful place along the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway that is often overshadowed by other bodies of water like Mirror Lake and Lilly Lake. However, it makes for a fabulous day trip destination.

Keep in mind that camping is not allowed at Teapot Lake. The road to visit this lake is also closed during the winter months. For more information, visit the National Forest Service website.
