One of the many things I love about Utah is the incredible hiking trails. While hiking is a popular activity any time of the year, there is nothing quite like exploring the trails in the autumn months and when fall foliage is at its peak. I recommend exploring Dawn’s Trail in Park City during this mesmerizing season. The reds, yellows, and oranges create a fall foliage wonderland and will quickly make you fall in love with the Beehive State.
Park City is one of Utah's most popular mountain towns. But while many people flock to this town during the winter and summer months, I love to visit in the fall.
There are dozens of hiking and mountain biking trails in Park City but one of the best is Dawn’s Trail. This trail is just over three miles and it takes you on a scenic adventure where you'll find yourself surrounded by fall foliage. It’s truly breathtaking.
To access the trailhead, we recommend you park in the Park City Mountain Resort parking lot. You will find the trailhead near the Silver Star Cafe. Depending on where you park in the large lot, it will add just a bit of distance to your journey. Take the Silver Spur Trail to where it connects to Dawn’s Trail. Keep in mind this is a hiking-only trail – mountain bikes are not allowed.
The first stretch of this trail is quite exposed so bring plenty of water and sun protection. However, it’s beautiful as you’ll enjoy views of the resort, Park City, and the mountains covered in fall foliage.
In total, this trail is approximately 3.5 miles. It is an out-and-back trail and can be difficult in some areas. There are some steep climbs so come prepared to work. However, there’s no rush to complete this hike. Take your time, rest when needed, and just enjoy the views.
This trail is clearly marked and easy to follow. After a bit of a climb, you’ll start to enter shaded areas where you’ll find yourself in a fall foliage wonderland. Step away from the crowds, enjoy the colors surrounding you, and breathe in the fresh air. I’ve found this is a great place to clear your mind and fall in love with Utah’s natural beauty.
This trail is wonderful for the entire family, however, little hikers may have some difficulty with the steeper climbs. You are also welcome to bring your favorite furry pal with you but they must be on a leash at all times. You can be fined if the dog is found off its leash.
If you are up for a little adventure and want to surround yourself with vibrant colors, add Dawn’s Trail to your list. It truly is a fall foliage wonderland.
