Explore One Of The Most Shallow, Cleanest Lakes In Southern Utah

It is impossible to name the best lake in Utah. With destinations like Bear Lake, Mirror Lake, and Sand Hollow Reservoir, it is a true challenge to find the best of the best. But if you are looking for a beautiful lake that is lesser known and offers clear waters and a stunning backdrop, consider Navajo Lake.

Southern Utah offers many options when you want to spend a day on the water. However, one that is often overlooked is Navajo Lake in Kane County.

This is a small reservoir and quite shallow. Its deepest areas are only 25 feet.

However, one look at the water and you’ll want to jump right in. The water here is mesmerizing and with a forest backdrop, it’s the perfect day trip destination.

Many people visit Navajo Lake for its fishing. Whether you stand on the shore or ride in a boat, it's worth throwing out your line. Trout are most common in this body of water.

Right along the shores of this southern Utah reservoir is Navajo Lake Campground. This isn’t a large campground — it has 12 campsites, four double sites, and 11 walk-in tent sites. However, it’s a beautiful destination for some time out in nature.

Keep in mind that Navajo Lake Campground is a seasonal campground and is typically open from late May to early September. It features both first-come, first-served campsites as well as reservable options.

Whether you come to the lake for a day of fun or you stay for a while in the campground, just make sure you bring your hiking shoes. The beautiful Virgin River Rim Trail is accessible right from this campground and provides some incredible views.

While you likely won’t complete this trail in its entirety (it's approximately 32 miles), explore a little ways and turn around for a fun day hike.

Any time of the year is beautiful at Navajo Lake but we are especially fond of the autumn when the fall foliage is at its peak and the vibrant colors are mixed with the evergreen trees. It will make you fall in love with this area even more.
