Walk To A Waterfall At The Battle Creek Falls Trail, An Easy 1-Mile Hike In Utah That’s Great For Families

It's good to pry your kids away from their video games and phones every once in awhile, and get them out in the fresh air for a hike. Kids love a hike with a payoff, and this one features a pretty waterfall. Check out the Battle Creek Falls Trail:

You'll find the Battle Creek Falls Trailhead at Kiwanis Park in Pleasant Grove. There's a large parking lot, and several trail markers. You'll want the Battle Creek Trail No. 050.

The trail is about .6 miles each way, so it's a fairly quick trip, even with kids. In the beginning of the hike, the trail is wide and fairly flat.

As you hike, you'll see some spectacular views along the way. This trail can be pretty crowded, especially on summer weekends, but it's a year-round trail, so if you have the opportunity to hike it on a weekday or in the fall and winter months, you'll find fewer people sharing the trail with you.

The trail gets a little steeper about halfway through. In some spots there's a lot of loose gravel, so watch your step.

When you reach the footbridge that crosses Battle Creek, you're almost there!

There's just one short, steep section left, and it's strenuous but plenty picturesque.

You'll see that the trail splits off and you can make a decision: descend to the bottom of the falls...

...or keep going to view the falls from above. You can always do both! The 50-foot-falls are beautiful, especially in the early spring when there's plenty of water flowing.

Battle Creek Falls Trail can also be a good hike in the winter. The trail is generally well-traveled enough that you won't need snowshoes, but you might want traction cleats for the steep parts of the hike.

As with any of Utah's beautiful hikes, make sure you're adequately prepared for your journey. Bring some water and keep a close eye on kids. During spring months, the creek can be fast due to runoff.
