A Bit Of An Unexpected Natural Wonder, Few People Know There Is A Remote Island Hiding Off The Coast Of Texas

San Jose Island is a remote, uninhabited island off the coast of Port Aransas, Texas, known for its pristine natural beauty and tranquility.

Most people know there are islands in Texas - after all, Galveston Island and South Padre Island are some of the most popular vacation spots in the state. Far fewer people are aware, however, that there is a remote, uninhabited island off the cost of Port Aransas that is open to the public for day use. It's called San Jose Island, and it's pure Lone Star State paradise.

Accessible only by jetty boat, San Jose Island is a privately-owned, uninhabited island located off the coast of Port Aransas.

Despite being just a stone's throw from the mainland, the 21-mile-long island offers an entirely different experience than the more popular beaches in the area.

No motorized vehicles are allowed on the island, so visitors can enjoy some rare peace and quiet, with the only background noise being the sound of the waves gently crashing into the shoreline.

In addition to offering blissful silence and seclusion, San Jose Island boasts golden sands and pristine waters.

Birdwatchers flock here to check a wealth of species off of their list, and anglers hope to catch speckled trout, redfish, and flounder.

If you're an avid seashell collector, welcome to your own personal paradise. Some of the most unique shells you've ever seen, including lightning whelks, shark eyes, and angel wings, are yours for the taking.

The virtually untouched natural beauty of San Jose Island makes it worthy of a spot on every Texan's bucket list. You'll never forget the experience of visiting such a magical place.

Since the island is undeveloped, there is nowhere to stay or eat, so plan on spending just a few hours there before returning to the mainland.

Ferry rides to San Jose Island leave from the Port Aransas Fisherman's Wharf - boats depart from the mainland to the island throughout the day, with the last boat returning to Port Aransas at 6 p.m. A fee (roughly $18 per adult), is required, and the cost is subject to change. On the island, visitors must remain on the beach below the mean high tide line.
