Editor's note: The La Vernia location of Texas Tulips is no longer open - it is now a private residence, so please do not visit. You can, however, visit the original farm in Pilot Point!
One of the greatest natural wonders in Texas involves the fields of wildflowers that pop up every year blanketing the Lone Star State in color and beauty. In fact, while many people are busy being mesmerized by the bluebonnets, there is another flower making its rounds as well. Texas Tulips, a magical tulip field in Texas, is a vibrant, eye-popping wonderland. As the very first tulip field in the state, it's no wonder people are lining up by the droves to visit.
Texas Tulips, the first-ever tulip field in the Lone Star State, opened a second location in order to allow for more tulip picking! The second field is in La Vernia, which is right outside of San Antonio, and the flowers will likely remain in bloom throughout March.
Choose from over 100 varieties of tulips, their availabilities fluctuating throughout the season. With so many colors and shapes, there's something for everyone.
Here's a rundown of how the process works. First, grab a picnic basket, which you'll find laying on the field. Then, pick your tulips and design the perfect bouquet.
One final step remains: getting your tulips all wrapped up for the trip home. A special gel is placed on the stems for preservation purposes, guaranteeing no freshness will be lost regardless of how far away you live.
Many professional photographers offer sessions here, and it isn't hard to understand why. This seemingly endless field of eye-popping vibrancy couldn't be a more perfect backdrop for any special occasion.
It only costs $5 to enter the field and $2.50 for each flower you pick. Admission includes a hay maze for the little ones who aren't quite old enough to pick tulips just yet.
Texas Tulips is open seven days a week.
