Okay, Texans - the weather's starting to warm up, spring is so close you can almost taste it, and I know you're starting to plan your family outdoor activities for the season. I have one you definitely need to add to the list. Located in Wimberley, a cute little town outside of Austin, Jacob's Well will fascinate you and make your palms sweat with fear at the same time. It's a beautiful natural spring with crystal-clear water, gorgeous limestone...and a 200-foot deep gaping abyss. Read ahead to learn what lurks beneath it.
Does this view make your palms sweat? And just think - this is merely the tip of the iceberg compared to what lies below.
Beneath the surface is a vast underwater cave system with four separate chambers: the first is 25 feet deep, the second 35 feet, the third 75 feet...and the fourth is said to extend over 200 feet into the earth.
If your palms were sweating before, just imagine that girl soaring off the ledge she's perched on and (hopefully) plunging deep into the black abyss below. If you dare, you can follow suit, standing on the rock above and using your best judgement to aim your jump into the center of the well. But beware, because failed attempts as well as amateur cave diving mistakes have claimed the lives of nine people at Jacob's Well.
Phew, looks like she made it. Now it's your turn!
So, who's ready to hop in the car and go check it out? If you've already been to Jacob's Well, what did you think of it? Were you brave enough to dare jumping off the rocks?
