Tennessee is a gorgeous state, most of us know that already, but when it comes to seeing it in all of its natural glory you may want to check out one of these incredible scenic overlooks. From Memphis to Chattanooga, off to Knoxville and everywhere in between, one of these beautiful local spots are bound to whet your appetite for a bit of natural beauty. How many have you visited?
1. Lookout Mountain
Lookout Mountain in Chattanooga is one of the most famous overlooks in the state. Home to Ruby Falls, The Incline Railway, and tons of Civil War History, you could easily spend a day atop Lookout Mountain.
2. Sunset Rock
Sunset rock is on the Western face of Lookout Mountain and takes a short hike to get to, but it affords some of the best views of the sunset you'll find anywhere in the state.
3. Love Circle
Love Circle in Nashville is accessible from West End and provides a stunning view of the city's skyline --especially at night. Bring a blanket and a picnic and enjoy the view!
4. Signal Mountain
Signal Mountain is a ridge just outside of Chattanooga, this section of Walden Ridge gets its name from the fact that Native Americans and later Civil War soldiers would use this mountain to send signals towards Lookout Mountain to the South.
5. Newfound Gap
Newfound Gap is the gap in the Smoky Mountains that marks the border between North Carolina and Tennessee on the road through the park from Gatlinburg. The views from the road, and especially from the gap, are absolutely breathtaking.
6. Tom Lee Park
Tom Lee Park might not let you look on the landscape thousands of feet below you like many of these other lookouts, but this spot is the perfect vista for watching the Mississippi River drift through Memphis on its way to the Gulf.
7. Morton Overlook
The Morton Overlook is a spot on the Newfound Gap road that offers a stunning view of this secluded valley on the back side of Morton Mountain.
8. Pot Point Loop
Pot Point Loop is a trail that runs about 6 miles round trip just outside of Chattanooga, but the payoff is this stunning view of the Tennessee River Gorge.
This hilltop hike is also pretty incredible if you're still looking for someplace fun in Tennessee to explore.
