It’s Impossible Not To Love This Breathtaking Wild Flower Trail In Tennessee
The Rhododendron Festival in Roan Mountain State Park is popular amongst Tennesseans, and for good reason: it's completely and utterly obsessed with our east state rhododendrons. No one does beauty better than the Volunteer State, and we're about to show you what sets us apart every summer. Care to take a walk down a most flowery trail?
The ever-beautiful Roan Mountain is one of the top tourist draws for folks in Tennessee, attracting folks from miles around to see its gorgeous vistas and expansive greenery.
But really - a view like this is pure magic.
Roan Mountain is 6,286 feet tall, and it is home to the famous Catawba rhododendrons. They have stolen the hearts of Tennesseans with their bursts of purple color and inspired the annual Rhododendron Festival.
The festival occurs during the flowers' peak blooming time, when they explode in a stunning display of pinks, reds and purples with their thousands of gorgeous blooms. Hundreds of acres cover the mountain ridge - it makes for a beautiful sight.
The festival is held the third weekend in June, and has been since 1947. These gorgeous additions to our Tennessee wilderness have been long loved and admired. The two-day festival helps to memorialize one of the most beautiful natural displays in the United States.
You can climb a trail from the old Cloudland Hotel to the Roan High Bluff Overlook, which then will circle you back. Wander the grassy balds, and explore. Roan Mountain is actually a five-mile long ridge, not exactly a mountain, so you'll have views of the Smokies throughout the entirety of your walk.
Visit Roan Mountain State Park yourself this summer, and indulge in a bit of natural beauty. City skylines have nothing on east Tennessee, you know. Absolutely nothing.
