The Easy Trail In South Dakota That Will Take You To The Top Of The World
The Stratobowl Rim Trail near Rapid City, South Dakota, offers an easy, one-mile hike with breathtaking views of the Black Hills and the historic Stratobowl.
Hiking in South Dakota is always plentiful and beautiful, but sometimes you need a hike that is completely low-key. On this hike, you won't have to sacrifice any amazing views. Located near Rapid City, this hike is easily accessible and at only a mile long, it won't wear you out. When you reach the top, be prepared to be blown away!
This is the Stratobowl Rim Trail!
This little hike is located near Rapid City, just off of Highway 16. You won't have to travel far to take a relaxing hike.
The trail itself is actually a service road, so the terrain is easy to navigate and perfect for people of all abilities.
The beginning of the trail is just down the road from the Black Hills RV Service Center, and there's parking on the side of the road.
Though this hike is only a mile long, it offers amazing views of the Black Hills.
At the top, you'll overlook the Stratobowl, which was originally used for mining. The site became famous in the 1930s when men took flight in balloons and broke records.
Now, every September the Stratobowl is home to an annual balloon festival honoring the events. Even without balloons, it's a sight to be seen.
Though this hike is simply and straightforward, it leads to the top of Black Hills and is home to breathtaking views. Get out and see for yourself!
The Stratobowl Rim Trail is located in the Black Hills. The RV Service Center in which the trail is near is located at 13620 S. Highway 16, Rapid City, SD.
