This trail is no quick hike. At 10.5 miles long, you can spend a whole day walking down these paths.
It's easy to get off trail on this hike, as the markers are pretty spread out. If you get off track, go back and find the last marker. If you look far enough you should be able to find the next one.
This trail is not heavily trafficked, so you can find solitude as you take in the beautiful views.
Even though you might not find many other South Dakotans, you'll likely see wildlife roam such as big horn sheep, birds, and rabbits. You may even find a rattlesnake or two, so watch your step.
This hike may not offer many intense climbs, but the length of the trail and the hot sun beating down makes it an intense experience. There's not much shade on this trail, so pack lots of water and let someone know that you're embarking on a long hike.
Castle Trail might be quite the trek, but the views of our state's most beloved rock formations are so worthwhile.
