Have you been searching high and low for an amazing SoDak hike complete with a jaw-dropping overlook? If so, you have come to the right place, as South Dakota is home to more of these incredible trails than we can count, including this one magnificent overlook that's worthy of a little adventure:
Welcome to the Lovers' Leap Trail!
Located in Custer State Park, Lovers' Leap is a 4-mile loop trail rated as moderate and passes through some of the picturesque landscapes that the area is known for.
As the trail is rated moderate, it begins with a steep climb along a dramatic ridgeline, which is hard work but pays out with stunning views as far as the eye can see.
Not only does the bird's eye view feature breathtaking vistas and the Black Hills setting, but also iconic landmarks like the Cathedral Spires and Harney Peak.
After climbing the ascent and taking in the out-of-this-world views, hikers will begin a descent down the trail that features not only easier footwork but more Black Hills scenery like wildflowers and wildlife.
Can you see why we love this hike (which was named for a Native American legend where 2 lovers met their fate atop the peak before jumping to their deaths)?
Admission to Custer State Park and the Lovers' Leap Trail is $20 per vehicle per week.
