Any time of year is an ideal time to get outside and reconnect with Mother Nature. Whether you live near the following lake or not, any day trip to this destination is sure to leave everyone feeling refreshed and rejuvenated from a day spent in the great outdoors.
Paris Mountain State Park is perhaps one of the most underrated parks in the state due to its proximity (only six miles) from all of the activity in Greenville.
But don't overlook this hidden gem forever. Make this the year you get over here to see its splendor for yourself.
At a mere 1,540 acres in size, the park surprisingly has a wide variety of things to do.
Not many people realize this park has four lakes.
It's easy to overlook the other three when Lake Placid, the lake adjacent to the park's entrance, is so front and center and filled with activities.
The 13-acre lake has a swim area set aside that's roped off from the rest of the cool mountain waters.
Bring the kids and watch as they play only steps away. (The lake doesn't always have a lifeguard, so swim at your own risk.)
This lake is also used for kayaks and paddle boats which can be rented for a small hourly fee.
Whether you paddle or pedal, you're sure to enjoy getting a little exercise on top of this fun mountain lake.
A variety of hiking trails meander along the lakes and through the forests.
They're all clearly marked with signs and blazes and you can always pick up a park map at the entrance.
Want to spend the night? The park has a campground with 39 campsites carved into the natural flora.
From tent camping to RV'ing, there's a site waiting for you.
And then... there's that waterfall. You see it before you even enter the park. Pop onto the Lake Placid Loop trail and it will wind you all the way to the fairy tale footbridge at the base of the waterfall. Can you feel the spray already?
